Microsoft Declares Annual Dividend and Announces Two-for-One Split on Common Stock | |

Thanks Robin, Bob and Jeff. Microsoft Corp. today announced that its Board of Directors declared an annual dividend and approved a two-for-one split on Microsoft common stock. The annual dividend of $0.16 per share pre-split ($0.08 post-split) is payable March 7, 2003, to shareholders of record at the close of business on Feb. 21, 2003. As a result of the stock split, shareholders will receive one additional common share for every share held on the record date of Jan. 27, 2003. "Declaring a dividend demonstrates the board's confidence in the company's long-term growth opportunities and financial strength. We are especially pleased to be able to return profits to our shareholders, while maintaining our significant investment in research and development and satisfying our long-term capital requirements," said John Connors, chief financial officer at Microsoft. | ||

| I agree that this is the one good thing about the Tax Cut is there were probably conversations between Bush/DOJ/SEC and MS. I wanted to see this happen. So what? Is the stock market going to be rescued tomorrow? No. Can you think of ten, hell, one company that is also going to start issuing dividends? No. Does this change the unemployment situation? No. |

parker - I never said that changing the tax law would not possibly boost dividends.
Besides, MSFT paying off dividends was pretty much coming. There is not tax cut, and this aspect is likely not going to pass the Congress, so obviously there is no connection. You're missing the broad side of a barn with your arguments, if you'd focus on the issues I raise instead of issues that you think I've raised maybe you might do better. You'd certainly sound less childish. |

#10: soda: I think the dividend tax cut will probably pass.
a.) Because Democrats want only the cuts that appear to be for the rich to pass so they can keep perpetuating the "rich-only tax cuts" lie b.) The Democrats have always vehemently faught anything that gets rid of the marriage penalty or increases child tax credits, so they don't care as much about this one. (the reason? see (a) they don't want middle or poor-class tax cuts because then they can't bash the rascally Republicans) c.) All House/Senate Democrats are super, mega-rich and would benefit immensely from a dividend tax cut. And any excuse to get more money in their pockets is a good one! |
