Three years ago, Liberate Technologies surged to fame as the proxy for Larry Ellison's ambition to disrupt Microsoft's control of consumer software. The company's CEO, Mitchell Kertzman, preached more eloquently than anyone in the valley for technology unfettered by Redmond. Today, Liberate is a husk of its former self, battered by accounting irregularities, the firing of its chief operating officer, and the desertion of key investors. | ||

Interesting, a few years ago when Microsoft was trying to enter this market, all the ABMers declared Liberate the winner because Microsoft was slow at delivering.
Maybe there just wasn't a market? Maybe the solution is actually hard? Maybe nobody really knows what the question is? |

| My cable provider used Liberty and I really liked it. Then, a few monthes ago, we got a letter that said we needed to bring out box in, because we were all getting new ones. I don't think I like the new one as much. I'm not sure what brand it is. |

Wow, I had no idea any of this was going on. Last I heard, Liberate was kicking MSFT's arse.
It looks like Microsoft finally had to resort to that WinXP back-door and was able to kill Liberate from within. |
