Irked at his inability to read Microsoft eBooks on his older Win CE device, UK programmer Dan Jackson has set up a project to improve file conversion tools. Jackson obtained the source code of a program called Convert Lit (or clit.exe, no sniggering at the back there) from its developers and posted it on his Web site. | ||

Article is illconceived...
Microsoft doesn't care about copyright protection, other than they offer the capability because their customers(i.e. the book publishers) want it. These Hackers are only hurting themselves, because now the book publishers can go to Congress and say "See, the reason why we are not offering ebooks is because hackers steal our stuff." |

The one difference now is that with computers and the internet you can give a copy to millions of people. ( Much easier and cheaper than copying a book ) Corporations are attempting maximize their profits by renting ebooks to us. IMHO, this will never work. |

TheCodeFoundry - That's a reason to not buy ebooks using DRM, it's not a reason to break the encryption the ebook is using.
People need to start understanding that the only way to impact companies is at the bottom line through legal market mechanisms.... i.e. don't buy their product if you don't like the way it is delivered. By promoting theft, you just confuse the issue. |

| TheCodeFoundry, at least the eBooks I have are attached to my passport. I can activate a Microsoft Reader and attach it to my passport. A passport supports four Reader installations, so I can read my book on four different devices. One desktop, one laptop, and one PocketPC are quite enough fair use for me. And I still have another device that I can activate Reader on and read my books. |

| just dont buy ebooks that are protected.. just that simple. Forcing change via the market is not easy, but is the only real recourse, and one that unfortunatly is not always done without sacrifices. |
