Why did Acrobat Reader get singled out? Just a hunch, but if AR doesn't run, most other Windows software won't either. If most other software won't either, why mention a little app like Acrobat?
"Microsoft executives say the system won't be ready until late 2004 or early 2005" For many months now, the rumors have been late 2004 early 2005. If this is still a target (and if Alchin won't sign off on it, then it isn't really a target) then nothing has changed. This news article seems to have not given any new information. |

I don't get the point of this story!
Everything in this story MS has said and I think that everyone is aware of 1. For months MS has been pushing the delivery date further and futher out (I have heard 2005-2006). 2. They also said that this is a total re-write with an ambitious list of functinality. 3. They also said that everything may not be backwards compatible. Given the feature list it would be asinine to not expect. And I am sure that most of us would welcome delays if it meant getting a better product. |

The longer it takes, the better. I have been getting tired of buying a new OS every year.
1. Windows 98 1998 2. Windows 98 SE 1999 3. Windows 2K 2000 4. Windows ME 2000 5. Windows XP 2001 While 3 and 4 came out the same year, most only bought one or the other. I got both. So, 2005 is a good date, and 2006 is even better. In the mean time, lets see some major service packs, and maybe a Windows XP SE (and make this a 30.00 upgrade for those of us that have a legit copy of Windows XP Pro or XP Home. |

| My guess is late 2005. Of course, a number of things could happen that could skew that date, but that is my best guess. I don't think MS would release it early in a year, since releasing it around the holiday season is something they have been doing a lot of recently (atleast in consumer versions). I don't think they will wait till 2006. Right now they say that there will be no other releases between XP and Longhorn, but if one does come out, I think everything will change. |

| A new OS should only come out once every 3 years at best. That's the upgrade cycle, about when businesses buy new computers, etc. It also generally takes at least a year before businesses start upgrading to a new OS from when it's released. |

| Why does it have to look the same for the next three years? Just get the UXTheme patch or Windowsblinds and choose from the thousands of themes already available. |
