JUST WHEN MICROSOFT might have thought itself free of legal shackles, having settled antitrust charges with the Justice Department and beaten back state attorneys general seeking tougher penalties, the software giant once again finds itself with a big problem in court. This time the problem arises from an antitrust suit brought by one of its fierce competitors, Sun Microsystems. | ||

| Even if Microsoft is forced to bundle Sun's JVM with Windows, this isn't even close to even a hurting blow. I highly doubt that the availability of Sun's JVM on every Windows desktop would increase amount of desktop Java apps by even 5%. |

| In the desktop space, I don't think Java is much future, unless they do a serious overhall to the JVM. In the server space, well, this ruling has no bearing on that. In the embedded object space, Java faces more competition from Flash than it does from .NET. Flash is at least as widely distributed as IE. Flash also, IMO, is more powerful than Java with respect to applets. Once again, I don't think this ruling is really going to change anything. |
