Just because it's irrelevant now does not mean it cannot become relevant later.
The problem is that, as irrelevant as Linux is, the media loves an underdog and keeps posting stories about how wonderful and utopian Linux is, so MS must combat the PR.
MS have always taken even the smallest thread seriously, they're not going to stop now.
Neu: again, NO they didn't. IBM even said it just a few days ago on their site that they will continue to support OS/2, it will just no longer be available for sell on store shelves.
