Can video games ever be called art? I think so. One might be inclined to disagree if they've only been exposed to yearly sports game updates, mindless brawling games and the latest movie-licensed travesty, but a handful of games and game series manage to transcend such banality. I suggest that Sega's Panzer Dragoon is among these elite series. While it started as only a simple 3D shooting game, each of the three original Saturn titles shared a streak of bold originality. Highly creative art direction, lovely music, and uniquely alien creature designs combined to create compellingly cohesive glimpses of an alternate reality.
