Groove Networks Inc. is expected to release version 2.5 of its Groove Workspace peer-to-peer collaboration software by the end of the year, offering improved support for .Net and Web services integration. This version will include a new .Net development tool, the Groove Toolkit for Visual Studio.net, which company officials say will make it easier and faster to build and deploy customer applications in Groove. | ||

I don't know. I should probably look at this a bit more. I saw it mentioned numerous times on scripting.com, but I worry because that Winer guy has a tendency to really over-hype things. Oh something else I read over at scripting.com. Have you seen that the anti-MS crowd is now proposing something called REST as an alternative to SOAP? Doesn't seem to be substantially different, it just isn't Microsoft. At least Winer realizes that, although he still pushes his more simple XML-RPC which was the basis of SOAP. |

I find Winer to be one of the most intelligent and on-point technologists who frequently finds himself advocating the niche or obscure and/or the next big thing because he sees its true value from the beginning and he has no problems taking controversial sides because of ideological hangups unlike others... |

by the way, soda, you're way too jaded--I guess jaded is the wrong word... biased--on the SOAP vs. REST issue. I first came across REST a couple of months ago and some discussions have phrased it REST vs. SOAP just to address the differences. Most have actually approached it as REST + SOAP. The fact is SOAP can't do all the things REST does and REST can't do all the things SOAP does. No one I know doing "web services" considers SOAP a "Microsoft Thing." Also note this is in part why Dave still recommends XML-RPC -- rather than diving into either REST or SOAP which are too narrow to accomplish everything, you can stick with the "superset" (XML-RPC) and add whatever you need to fulfill your specialized purpose. | jerk, a lot of ppl I know doing web services consider SOAP a Microsoft thing. You and I both know it is a w3c standard, I guess a lot of other ppl don't know that. |
