what i meant was; where is this feature to keep windows messager up tp date? i know there is something to do this, but i have not found it yet. any suggestions? i already have the most recent version. belto... |

| Rhialto, Windows Messenger is only for Windows XP. If you don't have Windows XP, you should use MSN Messenger. |

| #7, no, I ran into the same issue. Windows Messenger (Not MSN Messenger) gave me a message saying there was a new version available. It simply installed it "next to" Windows Messenger, so now I have both on my system. Fortunately you can disable Windows Messenger, in order to use MSN Messenger, but it is kind of a hassle, really. |

Same thing happened to me... the newest version of Windows Messenger said that there's a new version available, and then it actually downloaded MSN-M 5.0. I didn't install it though, cuz I knew it wasn't right.
... I do run both on a PC at home, and they run just fine together. |

Can anyone tell me, in plain English, what is the difference between MSN Messenger and Windows Messenger?
I always thought MSN Messenger is for Windows 95/98/Me/NT/2000 and Windows Messenger is for XP. And I always thought MSN Messenger uses Netmeeting to do video conferencing and Windows Messenger does video conferencing already, all built in (Windows Messenger is MSN Messenger & Netmeeting together) But MSN Messenger 5.0 now works on XP. What is the reason for letting XP users install MSN Messenger when they already have Windows Messenger? What does MSN Messenger have that Windows Messenger doesn't and vice versa?
