Microsoft has scratched plans for a major overhaul to an upcoming version of its Windows operating system for servers, the company confirmed Tuesday. The Redmond, Wash.-based software maker has been working on delivering the next major desktop and server versions of Windows--code-named Longhorn--by late 2004. Although the desktop version of Longhorn is still expected within this timeframe, a server version is not expected until 2005 or 2006, the company said. | ||

either way the delay makes microsoft more money... since they know the .net server adoption will take awhile.. and the next version will be done just about the time a majority of people have to re-up for SA\L60 after which they will happly release the next server version. But I think they are thinking.. why give the customer new software (that they have paid for via SA) for free when they are not going to use it.. why not put it off another year or 2 and force them to payfor it then when they actually plan to use it.
Would be nice if they planned there client and server releases a little better. I really prefered it when I knew my client workstations were running off the same base OS as my server... but XP basicly broke that concept... They ought to just delay .NetServer and get back to the nts\ntw release model.. worked out alot better for everyone. (course i could care less wtf they do with XP-home) |
