The new Bernina artista 200E is the latest sewing technology in 2002. The machine can embroider designs from a CD-ROM. Images also can be downloaded from the Internet via the sewing machine’s modem. This new machine is nothing like Grandma’s. The Bernina 730 was the latest in sewing machine technology in 1964. It featured five stitch lengths, was threaded by hand, had five shiny knobs on the front and was operated by a foot pedal. My, how times have changed. The artista 200E, the latest offering from Bernina, offers more than 800 stitches, threads itself, cuts the thread for you, tells you when you’ve left the presser foot up and offers a dizzying array of choices on a mini computer screen.
