There weren't overwhelming shouts of joy or high-fives in the hallway, but relief settled in all the same as employees at Microsoft's headquarters learned that the company's antitrust struggle with the federal government was coming to an end. It wasn't "like when the stock splits," said Randy Ramig, a software design engineer in Microsoft's mobile devices group, which works on software for wireless products. But he said workers were definitely feeling relieved. | ||

Well, depending on the outcome, it could cause a recession, although, the trial being mostly over (now we have the states who are going to apeal the ruling, I gaurentee) isn't going to cause an upswing in the economy, especially since Microsoft is one of the few companies that have still been making money over the tech slump.
But that didn't happen, so what does it matter. |

littleevil, fyi... i earned a minor in econ from a very reputable university. Granted, it was a few years ago, but the basic theories haven't changed.
For example, the law of supply and demand. When the threat of a breakup went out... IT managers (I am one) saw a rock solid company (Microsoft) subsumed in a cloud of uncertainty. And demand for their products dropped. And if people are uncertain about the KING, then they are uncertain about the KINGDOM. And demand to wholesale upgrade anything dropped. And THAT is what happened. And yes XMLSOAP, it happened just before the ruling... as it became more and more likely that that specific ruling was going to occur. XML: actually, the tech sectory really started crashing when Balmer made a statement saying that tech stocks were inflated... and it was very much true. People were investing in companies that had never turned a proffit.
Heck, I even heard NPR say that Amazon.com was the next Microsoft, yet at that time, Amazon had been around for many years and never made a proffit... that's called stupidity. The crash of the tech sector had nothing to do with the MS trial. |
