Microsoft says Windows 2000 passes security check | |

Microsoft Corp. said Tuesday that Windows 2000 has received the highest level of security evaluation of any commercial operating system, an important benchmark for government and other contracts. Windows 2000 received the Common Criteria certification, a global standard for security features and capabilities of information technology products, according to Redmond, Washington-based Microsoft. | ||

| It has been Microsoft's stated policy for years that hotfixes are included as part of the product license cost. I don't think that will change. |

| This should finally prove what OS is the most secure. Windows 2000 has EAL Level 4 certification something that no Linux distribution has been certified as meeting those standards. Like all things asssociated with Linux it is all talk about their security,reliability etc. with no proof to back up their zealots claims. |

| It appears the initial effort will be to get some kind of Linux certified to EAL Level 2, which probaly will take to the year 2004 if they started today. I also note that Windows NT 4.0 achieved this level in 1997. It looks like Gnu/Linux is way behind in security if all they can achieve in 2 years is what Windows NT 4.0 already has. No wonder that Government agencies and security minded companies can not use Linux. It does not meet their contractual requirements |

No matter what you say or do, Windows 2000 is certified and no Linux distro is. SELinux Looks like the government had to make their own distro as the others were apparently not secure enough. What level is SELinux shooting for 2 or 4 Agree that any BSD is twice as secure as the most popular Linux distros |
