#4 - While I haven't used Office X for the Mac, why do you think that Office XP's interface is "sucky"?
I find its task-based approach excellent, and considerably better than Office 2k.

Thunder: once again... there is nothing wrong with the Office UI, just because it doesn't look aquaish doesn't mean it's a bad interface... and in all honesty, Aqua is a very bad UI, it needs a lot of work... however, people such as yourself, think that eyecandy is the only thing that makes a UI good, however, this is WAY off.

I hope there is a way to keep the "classic" Outlook interface. From what I've seen, I don't like the new interface. I realize it may be premature to decide, and I'll certainly try the new one out, but even so, the option to use the "classic" interface would be nice. After all, that's what so many of us have become so used to over the last 5 years.

What I find interesting is that XDocs is basically Microsoft taking another Apple innovation called OpedDoc. They've changed it a little, given it a new name, and called it their own. Apple invented the OpenDoc technology in the mid 1990's and it was a great concept then. The only problem was that they didn't have a good set of apps to have it integrate with.
Maybe this time Microsoft can actually make an old Apple technology better. I think that this XDocs thing could end up being very cool if done properly.

beeyp:
Quit trying to rack up posts... it's really pathetic how you post one thing, 5 seconds later, you post another thing, so on and so forth.
Second, some people like the color scheme, others don't, if you ask me, it just takes a little time to get used to, its an aquired taste, like coffee. There are also 2 other color schemes for the WinXP visual style, you can always go back to the old Windows look, or, you can download some other themes from themexp.org.
Finally, I'm really getting sick of your attitude, if I was an AW admin, I'm afraid you would be ban. Why don't you try and grow up for a change?

I don't understand why the animosity towards people bringing in comments about good things on the Mac OSX. I think MS could learn many things from OSX, sure Aqua is not that great in other areas, and the FINDER ever expanding sideways tree expansion is a bore, but Office for the MAC is a far better done product than the version for the PC, i use then both, and I have around 345 people using office XP who complain daily of too many options they don't need and a very 'dull' interface. The interface for Office for the Mac is good, it looks good (which has been proven by usability studies to be a factor that adds to the ease of use and the increase of productivity when coupled with good programming and strategy in its function) and it does the job naturally (by that I mean transparency in the interactions between one package and another within the suite). I do hope that the new Office will borrow from the Mac version in interface, after all, the users out there are not programmers who go extatic about xdoc or whatever, they want to get their work done in a natural and may I say pleasant manner). Entourage is certainly a better experience as a PIM than Outlook is right now.

I don't have a problem with what you say. I agree with the fact that platform interaction wise, the PC version offers programming tools of a higher level than the Mac platform could ever offer. That does not take away the fact that a mass-marketed product that is supposed to make life easier also needs to have an appealing, easy to use interface. When you buy a TV, would you take a 1973 style just because, you probably will balance looks, features and technological capabilities, and that is my point, office has a lot behind it, but from the usability and interface design point of view (which is also a valid variable in the succes of a software) the Mac version is better made, and based on my usability experience at the work place since the release the mac version, I get better reception from users to the mac version than the PC (in fact I have a whole department of 15 people who officially requested to be changed to Macs because of the office version plus Ical and such). So I am only pointing what I see in the workplace (and I work with several companies in the UK from different industries), the execution of the interface in the Mac version of office seems to be superior in design than the PC version.
