Thanks Sebastien. "As of November 7, 2002, prefix letters will be phased out of all Knowledge Base (KB) articles worldwide making it easier for you to request an article in a language other than your browser settings. Today, KB articles are published in 21 languages, each with an unrelated number scheme and prefix letter, for example, Q123454 is an English U.S. article. By eliminating the prefix and changing the numbers of some articles, we will make sure that all translations of any article will have exactly the same content number. Customers worldwide can view localized versions of articles by passing an internet standard for language locale and the content number. " | ||

You can replicate that functionality with the following registry entry:

Good tip, Jcak. I was going to chime in that providing this functionality was in no way dependent on the service that realnames was providing briefly--they were actually providing a list of names, not the functionality.... but now that's evident. Does that registry entry become the search engine url for everything that is not a valid domain name though? I have address bar searching and Page Not Found/MSN search off, but would change it to enable KB lookups. And I can't check now because I'm not on a PC. Great, great, fantastic... .... Moron! Even if Draganta's native language isn't English, he's smart enough to know that the other prefixes refer to lang/nationality, but that Q does not, and it's meaning is not apparent (even to a person who's native language isn't necessarily English). He knows that Microsoft is an American company and has workers that code and write in the English language, primarily, and certainly, firstly... (even if he's not American or his native language isn't English). He knows that the English/American version of the KB uses Q; even if he was born yesterday and has never encountered the KB until reading this article--so he doesn't know if this KB has predecessors or is actually translated from Sanskrit--he still knows that Q has a unique and probably originating meaning which is not apparent. He is still asking why Q was chosen, dip. He didn't ask: "So, hey, did they change the American version to Q from EN-US today when they decided to eliminate the prefix?", MORON. So he knows that and asked a question. What was your answer, and what in the hell do you know? Are you capable of thought ... that you actually think you've set me straight with your post when you say: "I never claimed to have any knowledge whatsoever as to -- here we go with the highlighting again-- WHY Q was chosen in the first place."? ...that you actually "think" calling you an idiot is an insult rather than a point of fact? #15 - This registry change will only affect queries prefixed by "mskb". IE will behave just as it did before for everything else that you type in the address bar.
I learnt this trick from an old IE power toy, and I currently use it regularly with a variety of different search engines, each with their own prefix. You can also define such search prefixes very easily now with the latest version of Tweak UI. |

I consider every word an option--there's a whole wonderful range of expression--but if I went around saying "dang, "drat," I'd consider myself a big "dork" and would be as offended by myself (which is worse) as you are by Blasphemy. I personally think some words are too good to be banished, out of taste, used only in "adult" company, or limited to the small sphere of ritual.
