Microsoft posts Mac IntelliPoint 3.1 mouse driver | |

Microsoft has released a new version of its IntelliPoint mouse driver software for Classic Mac OS and Mac OS X. The new version, 3.1, is ready for download from Microsoft's Web site. Microsoft's IntelliPoint software provides programmability and customization for Microsoft's line of Mac-compatible USB mice and trackballs. The IntelliPoint software enables users to adjust tracking speed, as well as global and application-specific assignments of buttons and scrollwheel functions (as applicable). Documentation on Microsoft's Web site about what's changed since the last major release is scant, and system requirements are a bit confusing: Microsoft claims that the software is compatible with Mac OS 8.6 - 9.x and "Mac OS 10.1 to 10.3 (excluding Mac OS X)." | ||

baarod, what's incosistent about using the same three point versioning scheme that they've used since '81? The system is called Oh Ess Ten no matter what version it is 25.5.1 for all that matters--it's still OS Ten.
Don't see what's confusing or inconsistent... I always knew what MacOS was whether someone said, MacOs 7.6.1 or 9.1.1 or 8.5... You're right, I guess MacOSME, MacOS2000, and MacOSXP would be much more logical nameing schemes. |

Baarod, Stop? Stop what, clearing up your idiocy. Do I remember? What? Dumbass--the name OS X is not versioning. OS X is not a versioning, it is a name. The versioning is 10.2.1; this is three points, not two.. the points don't count the decimals, fool, they count the levels of designation--10 (Number 1--it's their 10th OS) POINT 2 (Number 2--somewhere between minor and substantial upgrade )POINT 1 (Number 3--bug fixes, security patches, drivers, optimization), Dumb Ass. The versioning doesn't affect the name of the OS--if it gets to version 11, 12, 45, the name of the OS is still Oh Ess Ten.
OS X is the name of the OS... It is not MacOS X, MacOS is the name for the older system--they only introduced this name around 8, I think, before then the name was simply System... Mac OS X is similar to Microsoft Windows. Windows has always been Windows?--I guess you don't know your own history... ahh, today's youth. Of course, MS likes to rewrite history themselves... http://www.microsoft.com/windows/winhistorydesktop.mspx but it started as Interface Manager, and then Windows Manager, then Windows, then Windows for Workgroups, then you get the "modern era" of Windows/Windows NT/Windows CE... and they apparently expect people to pronounce them "Mac OS ten version ten point two". They do? Does Microsoft "expect" me to call Win2000 "Microsoft Windows 2000 NT version 5.00.2195 Service Pack 2"? Nobody expects anything, dumbass. Jerk is absolutely correct in the rediculous naming schemes Microsoft uses for its products. Windows XP version 2002 version 5.1! What the heck is that?
As for OS X. I understood that the name was Mac OS X (as in the 10th operating system for the Macintosh). If the name is Mac OS X, then calling "Jaguar" Mac OS X v10.2 makes sense. This is similar to Windows NT (the name) v3.51 or 4.0. I think that having "X" not be part of the name, but rather part of the version would make more sense, but that's just me. |
