Oh heres some of that comment I posted earlier (Before it got Deleted). It was a comment post on a site called M3DZone and was during their processor poll. Here it is:
With CPUs, it all comes down to what works for you.
Well you Intel users really like you CPUs, and quite rightly so. Intel
has long time established them selves as the leads of the pack over the last
few years. Since the Pentium one, they have been well made, can takes the
stress (and the Heat) and are well supported. But there are still other key
areas that Intel still needs to work on that AMD have worked out. Performance
and Pricing. You go anywhere on the net and you find Athlons reviews kicking
the ass of Intel ones. Now I not all AMD, but they need to get more support
from software makes before these chips turn the table. The SSE instruction set
is great, but how many of u know what it about, and has it improved the CPU
performance. Well the case of the later is not. Athlons may now have a dated
core but they have speed where it counts.
As for pricing, well the P4 started at over 600 (In my country, the UK,
we work on pounds), which is way too much to get a product like this started.
About 15 years ago you could get a decent word processing software for about
for over a thousand. And before that, a games console like Nintendo NES before
the Micro chip could of fill a whole house and would cost thousands, maybe
millions. The point I making is the success of these companies wouldn't work
without an end user who can't afford it. The Athlon may not yet come with the
SSE instruction set and may seem cheaply made, but the chip is affordable and
if well looked after can last a long time. Currently here you can pick an
Athlon 1.4 for about £170 and similar P4 for about £350. So what does that
say about Intel's P4 $$$£££ (Not to imply anything). Below you can see the
current UK Prices of these CPUs
My Opinion
When I was setting up my Athlon system I had no problems. The
specifications below:
- MSI K7T266 Pro R
- AMD ATHLON 1.33 TB
- THEMOSONIC V60-4225 CPU FAN
- Crucial X2 256 DDR PC 2100 NP
- MAXTOR 40.1GB ATA 100
- Creative Geforce 2 GTS
- Creative Sound Blaster 5.1
Installing the Motherboard when smoothly, but there were no holes at
the side where RAID and DIMMS slots were to support the board. The DIMMs were
a little hard to get in. Installing the CPU was the easiest. As for the fan,
well that was a little harder, but I didn't crush the core as many would think
here. I connected everything else up and tested the systems. Things are
working great and since I had the system (Since 7th July), the system hasn't
crash nor blue screened once in either Windows ME/2000. Can u Intel users say
the same about your systems that you spent 2k on. I only spent 500 on it. Also
the CPU doesn't feel hot to touch either.
So you Intel user can slag off the Athlon as much as you want, but it
is a fast, solid and affordable for any user to enjoy without a large wallet.
