Sun Microsystems Inc. may cut up to 8,000 jobs, or about 20 percent of its work force, Merrill Lynch analyst Steven Milunovich said in a research note Tuesday. Last week, Sun Chief Executive Scott McNealy told Reuters that the company would consider job cuts if the company did not return to consistent profitability. | ||

| It's never a good thing to see people put out of a job. But, the obvious reason for this is Sun's inability to compete in this market. |

eastbam - Sodablue is one of the best posters at this site. His views are well-thought out and valuable.
Re: the story... anyone has any idea where these cuts will be made specifically? What part of the business are they abandoning? 20% seems high. Just imagine that happening at your own offices. 1 out of 5 faces GONE. Oh well ...I do hate to hear people losing their jobs, and I would have to agree with you #2.
Another thing, Sun concentrated more on suing Microsoft, hence spending money. Money that should had been spend on productivity, or R&D. This post was edited by rommels on Tuesday, October 15, 2002 at 15:13. |

Oh well you create a langauge and lincense it out to catch a big fish, the big fish has teeth and can fight back:) Unfortantly when you make that the focus instead of working on your own business model over time when the small commodity market is gaining on the high end server market it kinda kills you in the end:( El |
