Tablet PC catches CIO's eye | |

Mention toys from Microsoft Corp. and the Xbox undoubtedly springs to mind. But it's another device that's on the way that has one CIO excited. The tablet PC, based on Microsoft's Windows XP Tablet PC edition, will be available in about a month. Microsoft is pitching the tablet, variants of which are being made by several vendors, at "corridor warriors" -- people who spend much of their days going from meeting to meeting taking handwritten notes, but who would also like to check e-mail or send the occasional instant message. | ||

Can anybody explain me why someone would buy a regular laptop instead of a Tablet PC if they will perform as advertised? Maybe right at the beginning the price difference could be significative but I guess that in the mid-term the gap will close. When prices will not be so higher why give up with the added functions of a Tablet PC?

Well I managed to get my hands on it (Acer), and I have to say that I'm impress. Weight might be an issue on some models, but I can see that changing in the future.
I also like that fact that you can send the display image to a LCD projector with any wires. =) That was awesome. Ink was great to play with also This post was edited by rommels on Monday, October 07, 2002 at 12:02. |

I too finally managed to play with the Tablet PC (at the Educause conference in Atlanta), and it was awesome.
The handwriting recognition was excellent (MUCH better than anything else I've used), and writing on the surface felt almost natural. It wasn't very heavy (imo), and the flip around screen (revealing a keyboard) was really awesome "just in case". I'm buying one as soon as they're available. |
