One percent of the bugs in Microsoft Corp.'s software cause half of all reported errors with 20 percent of bugs responsible for 80 percent of the mistakes, Chief Executive Steve Ballmer said on Wednesday. Microsoft, the world's largest software company, has been criticised for unstable and unwieldy software -- which runs on more than 90 percent of personal computers. | ||

Some memory leaks (especially in C++) are very easy to miss. This is why Java, VB, .NET, etc are so popular.

Any thing that should have been done in a program but wasn't or wasn't done well enough or was done too well is a bug.

In related news Open Source developers today announced that 99% of bugs in software are caused by users.
"It's pretty simple," said Leroy Glick founder of the Bugtracking database Moronize, "we went back through our list of bugs and found that every one of them had only shown up after a user had done something in the app. Logic concluded that it was therefore the fault of the user." Other Open Source developers apparently agreed with Mr. Glick. "Some luser called up and told me that if he pressed button x he had pressed button y the program crashed with a core dump", said Sven Gionetti, "I had to waste over an hour of my precious gaming time explaining to the moron that you're not supposed to press button x after button y and any idiot would know that if they read the source code. God the nerve of some people! Next time some luser interrupts me while playing Quake, I'm going to tell them to buy a Macintosh and leave me alone!" |

appwz & diaphanein - have you guys ever done any come development where you had to free some memory using cotaskmemfree?
BTW, I do know that it is possible to leak memory in the languages mentioned aboved. All I was saying was these languages gives a programmer a lot more help in avoiding memory leaks. This post was edited by GhostRider on Friday, October 04, 2002 at 08:19. |
