Microsoft's Hard Line on Software Is Working | |

Microsoft's new hard-nosed tactics on software licensing apparently have worked, as an analyst says the tech leader's fiscal first quarter is tracking according to expectations. In a note released early Wednesday afternoon, Goldman Sachs analyst Rick Sherlund said he believes Microsoft's first-quarter results are likely to be tracking in line with his estimates, which peg earnings at $1.88 a share in fiscal year 2003. Sherlund cited strong licensing activity in July, which was the deadline for large business customers to switch to a subscription-based payment system. Large business customers had to upgrade their Microsoft software and change to a subscription-based payment system -- or else face higher licensing fees for software in the future. | ||

I'll be glad when they teach a little macroeconomics in jr high, so more of you kiddies (techlarry plays this role in this thread) would understand...
PRICE IS SET WHERE DEMAND MEETS SUPPLY. Companies don't sit around and say, I think we should make 30% on product X, and 80% on product y. The price of both products is set by the market. PERIOD. God, have you guys ever actually worked IN A REAL COMPANY. Do you have absolutely no exposure to the business side, instead spending all day in a tech world. Read the news or something. Broaden beyond just code. |

wiz, they might discuss a target profit margin to determine whether to move forward with the project... but in the end, the price is set as I discussed in #7.
XMLSOAP - think this through, please. MS does NOT have a monopoly with server software. And SERVER software is the area affected by the licensing changes. Therefore, your point is rejected.
