Microsoft Corp. today announced it has purchased U.K.-based Rare Ltd., one of the world’s leading video game developers, further demonstrating Microsoft’s commitment to providing the most innovative interactive experiences available on its Xbox™ video game system. Rare has been the mastermind behind some of the most popular video games in history, including such global multimillion sellers as “GoldenEye 007,” “Perfect Dark,” “Banjo-Kazooie” and “Donkey Kong 64.” Under terms of the $375 million cash transaction, Rare will today begin creating exclusive console gaming blockbusters for Xbox.

sphbecker - Where do you live? In this country(USA), undercutting the competition is a very common thing.
In the console business, the games is where the money is made. That is why MS has been buying game developing companies.

The problem with XBOX is the cost? Huh? It is technically superior to PS2 and on release cost the same amount. Microsoft likely took the same loss selling it that Sony did. With the first price cut the techinally superior XBOX again cost the same as PS2. What's wrong with the cost again?

mr becker, you didn't address the main issue - nintendo and sony both sell their consoles at a loss. as far as i know none of the three have said exactly how much it costs to built their respective consoles. further, as time passes it becomes cheaper to produce them so any numbers we have had in the past may well be invalid at present.

I had a roommate who was totally a robotech lover, but i never watched it.
i have seen cowboy bebop, lane, evangelian, princess manonoke (sp?), giant robo, moldiver, and a whole bunch of other ones.
there is another one which i rather like but i can't remember what it was called. it has a black (i think) metal case with japanese writing in red. It's somethink like "Ikari", but that's a character from Evangalian (well, father and son, two characters) hmm. a kid with a lot of power basically goes about blowing stuff up. dang this is going to bug me if i can't remember the name.

Ah, it was Akira.
Now there is another one I can't think of, but can't think of how to describe it. I think there is an older brother and a younger sister. The older bro is on some police squad and his sister steals his bike (or some type of transport device) and gets herself transported here and there. I think she finally gets officially deputized. I think the poster on this link belongs to this series http://www.animepavilion.com/construction.html . Oh yeah, there's this big bad guy thing that's almost invincible with this little clownlike head which has killed like tons of people (a whole space ship) and then comes to earth does stuff. Grr. What the heck this this thing's name?

Macross was great for the first 20 or so episodes. when it got into the 2nd generation it got kinda loopy for a bit.
Speaking of Macross, you see the Robotech game?? from vids it appears to be set in the first gen macross saga.
The only thing that really stunk about the show was the girl singing all the time.
Another Good series is Record of the Lodoss war, and the second one.
we use to tape all of those shows and they stopped showing it half way in the Southern cross series.:( for robotech that is:)
It was kinda interesting, because it was FASA's Battletech that got all the game side and computer game involvement. the Robotech game wasn't nearly as populiar as Battletech.
Oh well brings back fond memories of my gaming days;)
and Robotech, and several other anime was sources for that;)
Speed Racer anyone??
