Microsoft Corp. Chief Executive Officer Steve Ballmer comments on current business conditions, the telecommunications industry and on Microsoft's strategy for the Xbox game console. Ballmer was speaking to reporters during a visit to Vienna. On the future of the information-technology industry: ``A lot of people are worried about bad economies and markets and blah, blah, blah. We're still very confident our industry has a lot more value to add to the world at large. ``The next 10 years will be even more exciting, if you can conceive of that, than the last 10 years.'' | ||

Because one doesn't normally define a business where 4M consoles and 12M games have been sold in a year... as a bad business.

Apple is also moving towards DRM. Their key differentiator, so they say, is that their DRM will be standards based.
My question is why do they need a standard when MS DRM is already on many portable music players, not to mention WMA support that the iPod lacks. |

I build my own machines, and have been for about 10 years. Hopefully, this may allow me (and others) to escape this nonsense for a little while longer. But, if the time comes and I have to switch platforms completely for personal use, then I most certainly will do it. In the mean time, we have a few Senators in office that believe more in corporate donations than they do protecting the rights of consumers to take care of come next election day. If we don't, we will end up with a law behind this nonsense and we'll all be in trouble. TL |

Anyone here remember the infamous "Shit" episode of The Scree Savers a few years ago?
Patrick Norton is a kick. It was when Windows ME just came out, and people were having all sorts of trouble with it. He said brightly and cheerily, "There's some weird shit going on in ME". Since it's a live show, they had to live with it :) TL |
