You've never heard of the Zayo Razor? That's okay--it flew in under our radar, too. But this is not yet another overseas model that will never see the light of day in the U.S. It's the product of California-based Zayo Technologies, and it's coming in October. Among the Razor's highlights: a 400MHz XScale processor, 64MB of RAM, a Toshiba e310-caliber design (4.9x2.9x0.5 inches and 4.9 ounces), and hard-buttons that light up when you press them (oooh!). Better still, the Razor sports a jog dial and a connector for recharging the battery without the cradle. Zayo supplies software for tweaking the Asus motherboard's settings, which include turbo and power-saving modes. Watch out for it in October | ||

| Zayo is actually made by Asus. Similar thing happened when Audiovox came out with the Thera which was built by Toshiba. |

I bought my first PDA 2 days ago. A Compaq iPAQ 3835.
I always felt the PocketPC's were overpriced (they are), but CompUSA had one of those deals I couldn't turn down... $600 - $150 instant rebate - $100 mail in rebate = $349. I looked at the Audiovox Maestro, but was concerned after researching it on the Net. It would seem there are a lot of unhappy users with the Maestro, especially in the area of service/support (apparantly, non-existent), and dust problems under the screen. Now all I need is a Secure-Digital Wifi card. They don't exist quite yet, but are in the works. TL |

TL ...The Maestro was also built by Toshiba. It is their first forey into the PPC market. Dust problem was one of the iPaq owners complaints with the first iPaqs. I have the H3950, and it works great. To bad that the Pocket PC 2002 doens't utilized the the XScale processor; not really a big difference in speed over then StrongArm processor, but you will be able to tell the difference.

Yep. The Toshiba 510 or something like that. I was also aware of the early Compaq dust issues, and they have been fixed in the 3800 and 3900 series, mainly in the re-design of the Pen and Pen storage cove. Apparantly, the Toshiba 7xx is also having dust issues from what I've read. I've been following the T-Mobile thingy, and it looks neat, but my company provides my Cell Phone and I have to use their service. I don't need another monthly rotating charge :) The Compaq screen is incredible. Of course, it's a Sony :) TL |

JWM ...so far I am (we are) enjoying the device. In fact while you have the phone up to your ear, the display will turn for power conservation ...and no it doesn't look dorky because the device is small for a PDA. =) I've been using it to access the web, email, and IMing. Of course being a new device it has it's quirks, and I missed out with the rebate because I purchased it the day it came out.
I also utilized the PPC PE at work. I do keep a few simple Excel & Word files for information purposes. As for PDA support here at work, it is way easier to support PPC device than any other PDAs out there, and it goes the same with the PPC PE. |

JWM ...T-Mobile has unlimited nights and weekends, and you can setup your own dial-up ISP without using T-Mobile's data connection which are $19.95 for 5 MB / $39.99 for 10 MB / $59.95 for 20 MB /
TL ...the 3900 series comes with a transflective screen, and it is sweet. =) I'm sure you've seen it. I'm glad that Compaq has fixed the problem with the H3800 / 3900 series because I still remember when I had to open up my 3700 series to replace the stylus holder. |

JWM, the device comes with four different input application that you can use; Block Recognizer (Palm), Transcribe, Keyboard (on screen), Letter Recognizer. You will have to figure out which one will work best for you. A friend and co-worker of mine move from Palm OS to Pocket PC, and he didn't like Letter Recognizer because he was so used to Block Recognizer. Once I told him that the device came with it, he was off and running entering information ...including his password to access his email.
As for Earthlink, if they follow standard Internet protocols, that would not be a problem. So far all I know that would not work with PPC are AOL (go figure ;-) ) and NetZero. You might want to contact Earthlink for more information. Currently I am using MSN and T-Mobile to acccess the net with my device. Don't worry ...glad that I can give info and help. JWM ...I don't know anyone paying that much, but, you're connecting to GPRS to access the Internet. T-Mobile's connection is pretty fast ...depending on the strength of the signal.
For dial-up, you are using the Cellular Line to connect to your ISP. It is a little slower connecting to the Internet, but it works like a 56K modem. It also eats up your minutes. It is also nice to know that you can access your email and the Internet with one device and without a phone line connected to it. By the way, I use a Linksys Compact Flash LAN Card for my iPaq H3955 at home. The H3900 series comes with a Universal Remote Control (NEVO) that I love to use. :) This post was edited by rommels on Thursday, September 19, 2002 at 19:45. |

Ah ...you have to mention the iPaq 5000 Series. ;-)
Well it is slated to come out before the end of the year or early next year. So far I've seen three different (slighty from one another) designs for the device, and there should be six different configurations available for it. Not much info is available yet, but these devices are targeted towards the Enterprise market, specially the one that comes w/ the integrated 128 MB RAM. Most of them will have 64 MB to lower the cost. I'm not sure if the 3800 Series comes with the universal remote, but check www.mynevo.com. The software should work with your Tivo / Direct TV Device. rommels did you see the "old" Jornada Pocket PC ( Ithink is the 928, not 100% sure)? IMO by far still better than the IPAQ 5000. The screen cover alone, again IMO, would make the difference. This post was edited by Fritzly on Thursday, September 19, 2002 at 23:10. |

Fritzly ...I've seen the Jornada Pocket PC Phone Edition 928, and it is not available here in the US; only in Europe. It is nice, but it doesn't use a tranflective screen.
It is the only PDA that uses the Texas Instrument OMAP 710 Processor (geared for better battery consumption), and it is the only one in its kind to have a voice activation dailing system.
