Hackers Crack Four Microsoft sites | |

Microsoft was left reeling this morning after hackers defaced not one, not two, but three of its corporate websites in just half an hour. Then, to add insult to injury a forth Microsoft site was compromised by the same hacker before being defaced again by another group this afternoon. Prime Suspectz claimed responsibility for the four cracks which penetrated feeds.mobile.msn.com, redsand.rte.Microsoft.com, arulk.rte.Microsoft.com and webcfeedback.msn.com. All the exploits were achieved by using potentially devastating holes in Microsoft's beleaguered Internet Information Server (IIS) web server running on Windows NT and 2000. The hacker slammed Microsoft's web server security in one of his defacements: "Prime Suspectz again! One, two, three in only 30 minutes. As we can see, this server IIS is very good!! Micro$oft, where i find secure products made by you? WHERE?" | ||

This is simply a matter of visability. These idiots think they're pushing an agenda by arguing that MS doesn't ship secure products. Linux boxes who have uptimes >30 days or so are rootable. There are a plethora of them out there. Hell, it doesn't even have to be Linux, it could be BSD. Any box running BIND, SendMail, or SSH is probably vulnerable. There are many known exploits in each of those applications. How come Prime Suspectz (nice Skr1pt K1dd13 name) doesn't attack those and let the BIND and SSH people know that they continually ship products with root-gaining exploits in them? |

You tend to hear more about MS flaws because 1 they are one of the most popular servers and 2 its trendy to be MS haters right now. Don't worry its a cycle soon someone else will be the scape goat. Wait a minute! That was a directory listing of my machine! You broke into my computer, you hacker, you!
:) You have to do a DIR /X in Windows 2000 to display the short filenames. There's also a registry entry you can set to disable short file names completely. The anti-Microsoft crowd is not known for their intelligence or creativity, so you'll just have to ignore the Micros~1 bash for what it is... |

#4: No, they're logo is actually a (poorly drawn) Gnu. Gnu is a real animal. Most people refer to them a Wildebeests, but it's the same thing. It's part of the Anelope family.
