Why does software cost so much? Software vendors--and I'm not just talking about Microsoft here--will tell you it is because R&D costs so much. Well R&D does, but Microsoft didn't save up $40 billion of cash in the bank by pumping all its software revenues into research, and something tells me the money didn't all come from sales of keyboards, mice and SideWinder joysticks. | ||

Um, OpenOffice is missing two major apps - an email client and a database - which are included in Microsoft Office. Further OpenOffice has bad Word compatibility. |

| Yeah, no kidding about "complete Microsoft compatibility." As stated, that doesn't even make sense, but if even when it comes to MS Office it's plain not true. Supposedly WordPerfect has seamless support for Word as well, but "seamless" apparently means "as long as you don't mind having to reformat half your document." File conversion is never seamless. And good luck with MS Office macros in OpenOffice. |
