Borland to wield tools against Microsoft | |

After nearly being knocked out for good by Microsoft, software maker Borland is back on its feet and eager for a rematch. Borland, in the midst of a turnaround after years of financial struggles and strategic missteps, is preparing to go head-to-head against Microsoft next year with new programming tools that allow developers to build software for Microsoft's Windows operating system and its overarching .Net software strategy. | ||

Compete head to head with Microsoft?
Point #1 "They want to get to the developers who won't want to use Visual Studio to begin with," Gartner analyst Mark Driver said. "At best, it's 5 percent of the market, but 5 percent of 5 or 6 million developers is sizable. That's a good chunk of change, and they're not going to throw that away." - I am sure that most of those guys won't go a for Borland tool. Point #2 "The tool bundle will support several languages, Shelton said. "The (languages) we have been asked for are Visual Basic and C#," Shelton said. A Java language tool is also expected to be part of Galileo. " -Make a better tool that support the .net framework than Microsoft? (DON'T MAKE ME LAUGH) Point #3 -There is also going to be a Delphi.net that will work in Visual Studio. net. Developers won't even use Borland's tool for Delphi.net *next year we will be asking: "Borland, what do you do again? didn't they make that Lindows thingy work on the Xbox?" |

All this is doing is validating Microsoft's .NET. I think it's good that other companies are jumping on board .NET.
One thing that could help borland is if their IDE is significantly cheaper than VS.NET or offer more features. For example, if they give away a VS.NET-Enterprise-Architect-Edition-like product away for the VS.NET-standard-edition, they might get some sales. -d |

Hey, here's an idea!
Borland could go back to their roots... Release Turbo .NET. Create an IDE that does everything Visual Studio Professional does for $95 and encourage development at home again. |
