MS planning to tackle leaked WinXP keys with SP1? | |

Microsoft may be readying the next escalation in the Product Activation wars for the release of WinXP Service Pack 1, according to a report at BetaONE. The site claims that Microsoft has done a rewrite of the way corporate product activation keys are generated, and that although this feature is currently switched off in the SP1 beta, it'll be unleashed when SP1 goes live, the idea being to ambush all of the people using leaked corporate XP Professional keys. | ||

| It is clear then that the beta testers were chosen poorly. Hope MS fixes that too. |

I don't sign up for that beta. I'd rather not beta test a service pack, especially when my main machine would be the test environment -- can't have that go down. I said what I said because of the leaks. MS has problems with that. Clearly, some tester (and no, I don't care if it was an insider or a consultant or whatever) leaked it. That needs to be taken care of. Additionally, those NDA's that the beta testers sign need to be enforced. I was on the Beta for Office 10 (now called Office XP) and Visual Studio. NET and there were more leaks on inside info on those than could be calculated (and no, I didn't leak one bit.) |

I agree completely. It's only Microsoft's marketing image that stands between them and eliminating the hacks totally. |
