Microsoft Press Release |
Posted By: Byron Hinson |
Today Microsoft Corp. announced the worldwide availability of Windows® XP with a celebration in the business capital of the world: New York City. Customers are now able to acquire the new Microsoft® Windows XP operating system on new personal computers and in retail stores throughout the world. Microsoft Chairman and Chief Software Architect Bill Gates presented the keynote address at the most important product launch in Microsoft's history, accompanied by leaders from the PC industry, more than 50 Microsoft partners, a special welcome by New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani and an appearance by television's Regis Philbin at the event in Times Square's Marriott Marquis Theatre. "Today is a great day for PC users and a great day for the PC industry," Gates said. "With the launch of Windows XP, we are entering an exciting new era of personal computing. This powerful new version of Windows offers so much to customers -- it unlocks the full power of the PC and enables them to enjoy the best of what the digital world has to offer.

#5 , that's because the bastard analysts are wanting to capitalize on the disaster, and the increased sales of medical and war related goods and services.

Well since MSFT is only down 0.68% at 60.9. Meaning it is on the way back up from down 2%.
By the end of the day it may go positive.
Base and the stupid logic above I would say the XP is the silver bullet that will reignite the tech sector.
BTW, the so call "analysts" said the dot com stocks were good long term buys. :)

#8 - I didn't say that they should recommend buying MS stock. My point was that there are other reasons why the market is this way, and little having to do with Microsoft's performance.
And, any analyst who would use Win95's sales as the basis for predicting the sales of WinXP is a damn fool. The consumer market was MUCH smaller, and there is MORE demand for a Windows OS today.
#9 - Larry Ellison is the last person in the world who should be criticizing piracy and licensing plans...
#12 - People have been pre-ordering XP all across the country for weeks now... and you could even pay 10 bucks to reserve a copy at Best Buy. So far, the sales are good.

Those poor New Yorkers have been subjected to two major disasters in the last 60 days. The attack on the World Trade Center...and now the attack from Windows XP. :-P

That's not funny at all.
Having MS here is a plus for our economy. Ask NYC's mayor, who was there and thanked Bill and MS.
By the way, MSFT ended up 2% so using stupid (economic) logic, XP will be the greatest OS ever. :)

#16, lighten up! That was a little humor. And yes, having Microsoft here (wherever "here" is), is a plus for the economy. But the real question is whether XP will be a "plus" for our economy...particularly the tech economy. I don't believe it will have much impact at all. The signs are already there now. I was right all along in my prediction that there would be no long lines of people at retail stores waiting to get their copy of XP. So far, XP looks like a non-starter.

Here means New York. I am not ready to laugh about 5000+ people dying.
I don't think your opinion about XP is correct. But you know what they said about opinions.
Unlike you, I will not judge XP's success by people waiting in lines. I say talk to me in a year and we can compare the real results.

Fair enough. But I don't appreciate your insinuation that I was making fun of the deaths of 5000+ people. I find nothing at all humerous about terroism. My comments were nothing more than a little poke at the XP launch, which in my opinion is a little on the hokey side.
As to your other comment, I agree. We won't know what impact XP had until 12 months down the road.

You said the following :
"Those poor New Yorkers have been subjected to two major disasters in the last 60 days. "
If you had someone you knew die in the WTC disaster(just last month), I am almost sure you would not be ready for someone to joke by comparing it to MS coming to town.
I can see that you are a reasonable person based on you previous answer. So if you don't agree, please think about it.

Anyone who don't agree with you are gullible. Real smart (What is your IQ?)and grown up.
What is your age? (Since that is how you judge if someone is gullible or not)
