Quicken Tips

A Graphics Primer

When you use graphics to view your income and expenses, you need to make sure that you choose the right graph and the right layout to match your requirements. For example, if you want to show all the expenses, you don't want a 3D pie chart because the small expenses don't display properly. Take a look at an example:

  1. Temporarily create a small transaction--say $3.95.
  2. Choose Reports + Graphs + Income and Expenses
  3. Click on Create.
  4. Look at both graphs--bar and pie. Can you see the small transaction?
  5. Click on Options.
  6. Select Draw in 2D

The small transaction shows up better in 2D. But take a look at the bar chart: It doesn't have enough resolution to display the small transaction. Although chances are you won't generally have such a small amount in a single category, you should be aware that not all graphs can show all transactions equally well.
