Adding Meta Tags In FrontPage
- Title - Entered on the General tab
- Some search engines will display the text located in the Title Tag when your web page is
listed in a search
- Title tags show up in people's bookmarks
- Should be between 5 and 20 words
- Use your Company/Organization name plus keywords
- Cut & Paste your Title in HTML view so it's just under the <head> tag.
- Description (Meta Tag) - Use Add for User Variable on the Custom tab
- Some search engines display this as the summary of your Web page
- Not all search engines use this tag
- Try to limit your Description to less than 200 characters.
- Keywords (Meta Tag) - Use Add for User Variable on the Custom tab
- One way to maximize the usefulness of keywords is to incorporate singular and plural
cases of words as well as active and passive verbs
- Do not excessively repeat keywords tag as search engines may penalize you for this
- Not all search engines use this tag
- Try to limit your keywords between 800 and 1,000 characters
- Don't repeat words more than 3 times
Avoid using the HTTP-EQUIV REFRESH tag because many search engines will not index
the page. Also make sure there's adequate text on your page so search engines like
Excite will index it properly. Excite is one of those that do not use Meta Tags.
The best thing to do is to submit each page to the search engines, despite them not
saying so.
