The announcement of five more ELSPA Sales Awards indicates the ever-growing success of the UK's leisure software industry.

With more than 38% of the UK population now having access to a games console, it's really no surprise to see the sales levels for computer games software still on the increase. And it's no longer just the boys who admit to the passion of gaming, a recent report published by ELSPA and Screen Digest (The Wirelesss, Interactive TV and Online Gaming Market Assessment & Forecast) suggests that more than 40% of digital TV gamers are women.

Roger Bennett, Director General of ELSPA commented:

"Since the launch of the ELSPA Sales Awards in 1999, ELSPA has presented more than 180 awards to publishers of top selling computer games. Many industry sectors have now introduced award memorabilia as a means of congratulating their members on their individual achievements however, the ELSPA Sales Awards are special, as they provide a definitive guide to the level of success for each a game, per individual format, and to achieve these levels is solely dependant on the purchases made by the toughest judges of all - the games' buyers themselves.

"I would like to congratulate Nintendo, Electronic Arts, Namco and Sony Computer Entertainment Europe on their achievements and wish them every success for their future developments."
