Date: May 3rd, 2002
ActiveWin.Com

This mail applies to Microsoft® Windows® XP and Windows® 2000 users who volunteer to assist with the Automatic Updates client version 2.2 beta testing via the Windows Update Beta site, version 4.0.  Automatic Updates client is a component of the Strategic Technology Protection Program (STPP), established to keep computers running Windows secure.

The beta testing process is very important because it helps ensure that we release the best possible product.  Important:  The beta release of any product does not display the stability of a shipped Microsoft product. You may encounter problems with Automatic Updates version 2.2 Beta which could result in a loss or destruction of data. This release is not appropriate for use on production systems, and we recommend that you back up any existing data before you install and run this software.

Please read all product documentation and release notes before performing any testing.

Windows Automatic Update Beta 2.2 is currently only available to users of Windows® XP and Windows® 2000 SP2 users (Retail version) or Windows .NET Server Beta 3.  Also, Windows Update Beta sites only support Internet Explorer browsers, and the only supported language is English.

We had you add a special registry key in order to enable your entry to the Windows Update Beta version 4 site.  In order to test Automatic Updates client on Windows Update Beta version 4.0, please remove this registry key before you begin the Automatic Updates client testing.  To do this please download V4BetaRemove.zip file from either http://www.betaplace.com under WU 4.0 program OR from http://content.test.windowsupdate.com under Resources / Tools. Once you have downloaded v4betaremove.zip to a local folder double click on the zip file to run the v4betaremove.reg file by double clicking on the v4betaremove.reg file and click yes on the dialog that appears.
