Crash of the TitansIt has been a few years since the last Crash Bandicoot title was released and it isn't much of a surprise to see the lovable character back for another outing, this time on the Xbox 360.

The evil Neo Cortex has turned the creatures of Crash’s island into horrific mutations! But by using a whole arsenal of new combat moves Crash can hijack the monsters and gain control of their awesome powers. 15 Powerful Enemies to Hijack and Control!

  • Hijack and battle titanic monsters! Don't beat 'em – Jack 'em! Control, play and BATTLE as 15 different outrageous and totally unique enemies, including the likes of Scorporilla, Ratcicle and Shellephant – multiple playable weapons! Use their special abilities, breathe fire and strike with earth-shaking attacks. Use one enemy as a weapon to blow away the others.
  • Intense New Combat Moves! For the first time ever in a Crash game Crash now has a powerful acrobatic fighting system: punches and flying kicks, multiple attacks and special counter moves. Power up skills to unlock new attacks and blazing combos! Sure, he still spins, but now he's got some serious moves to back it up! Chaotic
  • Co-op Action! It's twice the Crash! At any point in the game get your buddy to join in and play as Coarbon-Crash, and work together to unleash total chaos! Crash can even jack Carbon-Crash (or vice versa) for some hysterical Crash/jacked-Crash mayhem!!!

How Does It play

Review Quotes
"Controlling the creatures is where the main differences come into play. The designers have chosen different animals and mixed them together to creature new creatures with new powers. There are fifteen enemies you can take control of during the game but many of them play out in the same way once more."

Crash of the Titans sees Crash return to platforming, but this time there is the addition of being able to "jack" or should we say "take control of" larger enemies that you come across during the game. Once you have taken control of the enemy you can use them to destroy stuff, progress in levels and to help you defeat even bigger enemies.

All of the humor you would expect to see in a Crash game is here and most of the characters you would have come across during the other titles make an appearance here along with some other new ones. The game manages to be funny in places too, mostly thanks to little things that the creatures say throughout it.

Graphically the game looks a little dated, it is more or less just an upscaled version of the Wii and PS2 versions of the game, it all runs well enough and has a nice cartoon style but the suffers with some screen tearing which a title that doesn't look great to start off with shouldn't be having...proof in point is Ratchet and Clank on the PS3 - full 60fps and fantastic graphics with no screen tearing. Also for some reason the game has used motion blur on your character for certain things he does, this looks completely out of place in the game itself.

The game is quite linear too, which isn't too much of a surprise considering it is a platform game, but the game is quite repetitive throughout, the whole game revolves around jacking creatures, a bit of combat and then a boss creature at the end to defeat. This means that boredom can set it quite early on during the game as there are no puzzles for you to work on or anything that will tax the brain. The combat is basic as well with you hitting X a number of times to do simple combos and also holding down Y to do charged attacks. You can unlock more moves as the game goes on, but due to the easyness of the game you won't really need to use them to complete it, possibly on your first go.

Controlling the creatures is where the main differences come into play. The designers have chosen different animals and mixed them together to creature new creatures with new powers. There are fifteen enemies you can take control of during the game but many of them play out in the same way once more. You have some monsters that are good at fighting, others that are good at throwing things and other who are slow but can destroy more things in one go.

Another problem in the game is the camera, it feels like it is always focused on you which means you can't always see what is going on around you and sometimes you can be killed because of this without knowing where the enemies were on screen, you can move the camera very slightly with the right stick but again it is a waste of time as it is only the tiniest amount. There are plus points though, there is a co-op mode which can be fun, with player two taking control of a clone version of crash. Both player play out on the same screen. Combat becomes a lot easier this way.

Final Comments

Byron's Gamertag

There were some good ideas here but unfortunately the game is just too basic and repetitive for its own good. Graphically the game is little more than an upscaled Wii title which is probably where a lot of the ideas for the game came from.

It is also very easy with a lot of gamers likely to complete it in one sitting. It does have a good co-op mode and I can see children enjoying it far more than any adults would do, it is just a shame that once more the Xbox 360 is lacking in a decent platform title.
