This document provides late-breaking or other information that supplements the Microsoft Broadband Networking product documentation. For information about configuring the Microsoft Wireless Base Station (MN-700), see Help in the Management Tool. For information about how to update the Microsoft Broadband Networking software and adapter drivers from the Broadband Network Utility, see "Update Software" in Broadband Network Utility Help.

1. What's New in This Release

This release includes:

• Improvements to the loopback and virtual server features of the Microsoft Wireless Base Station (MN-700)
• Added compatibility for Microsoft Windows XP SP2
• Improvements to the stability of Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA)
• User interface improvements to the Broadband Network Utility
• All previous updates

This release includes the following updated components:

• Broadband Network Utility (2.2.0.731)
• Microsoft Wireless Base Station (MN-700) firmware (2.1.2.590)
• Microsoft Wireless USB Adapter (MN-510) driver (3.1.3.31)
• Microsoft Wireless Notebook Adapter (MN-520) driver (3.1.3.31)
• Microsoft Wireless Notebook Adapter (MN-720) driver (3.60.7.0)
• Microsoft Wireless PCI Adapter (MN-730) driver (3.60.7.0)

2. System Requirements

To install this release, you need a computer that is running one of the following Microsoft operating systems:

• Windows XP Home
• Windows XP Professional
• Windows 2000 Professional
• Windows Millennium Edition
• Windows 98 Second Edition
• Windows 98 (If your computer is running Windows 98, ensure that it has the latest version of Microsoft Internet Explorer installed before you run the Update Wizard. For information about updating Internet Explorer, go to http://www.microsoft.com/ie. Also note that the Microsoft Wireless USB 2.0 Adapter (MN-710) does not support Windows 98.)

The Microsoft Broadband Networking software does not support Windows Server 2003.

3. Installation Notes

If you are updating a Microsoft Wireless Base Station (MN-700), you must run the Update Wizard from a computer that connects to the base station with an Ethernet cable.

If you are updating a Microsoft base station or Xbox Wireless Adapter, we recommend that you disable any firewall software on your computer before running the Update Wizard. You do not need to disable Windows Firewall. If you do not disable other firewall software, the Update Wizard might not be able to update your device. Some examples of popular firewall software include:
