8-9 Weeks for an iPod

Quotes
"A number of retailers believe that Apple has been prioritizing their own Apple store instead of supplying equally amongst stores, and this is not the way Apple should be doing things if they want any hope of increasing their market share."

It seems that Apple has gone back to that age old problem of being unable to ship enough products when compared to those being ordered from both their online story - and more importantly, high street retailers.

This was first noticed a few months ago with Apple's recently released Powerbook range, last week we contacted one retailer who said there was an "8 to 9 week wait" on the 17" Powerbook and no sigh of an ETA for the 15" models that everyone is having trouble getting.

While this may well indicate that there are newer models of the Powerbooks just around the corner (Apple's Paris Expo is due to announce them), we wonder whether the stock problems will continue once they come out. But none of these excuses wash with another of Apple's products that everyone is struggling to get a supply of - the Apple iPod.

The iPod was obviously going to be a big seller when it was first announced back in April. Some UK retailers are being told by Apple to expect another 8 week wait for any stock to come in, another worrying sign that Apple hasn't learnt from it's past problems.

Although it is hard to comment on the G5 right now, Dual 2Ghz models should have shipped by the end of August but as of today, they haven't. There are also a number of delays on the other two G5 models too, something that Apple promised would not happen with their new releases.

A number of retailers believe that Apple has been prioritizing their own Apple store instead of supplying equally amongst stores, and this is not the way Apple should be doing things if they want any hope of increasing their market share.

Let's hope that they sort it out sooner rather than later.
