Exchange 'Titanium' Unveiled | |

Microsoft on Monday for the first time publicly discussed details of the next version of its Exchange messaging and groupware platform, code-named Titanium. Although Titanium will incorporate a number of new features and other enhancements, the software giant says that when it ships sometime in 2003 it will constitute an “evolutionary” upgrade from Exchange 2000, which was released in late 2000. | ||

| I really like Exchange 2000, but honestly (from this preliminary report), this seems like a bit of a ho-hum release for 3 years' worth of work. The new features seem to be only relatively small extensions of what is already there. Maybe it's true that a good number of the Exchange developers went to work instead on Yukon? |

Considering that I had recently heard that Titanium was canceled and now this news. Oh well guess we will see, Titanium will defineantly be a ho hum release. Unless they do some bigger integration for other services. It would be nice to hear news about Yukon, besides the rumors of it starting beta in the next 2 months or so. El |

| I wonder if they will be doing a 64-bit version of Titanium? It seems like Kodiak would be too far away to not have a 64-bit version before then. |

| This probably spells the end of Microsoft Mobile Information Server. Looks like it's being merged with Exchange, which makes sense. |

CPUGuy, what is it hogging up resources on your Exchange box? In my experience, the only thing Exchange "hogs" is RAM, and that's a good thing--the more of the database you can cram into RAM, the better your performance.
Holedup--I was hoping that it would be the end of Mobile Info Server as well, but from this report, it sounds like the only thing they combined was the Outlook Mobile Access component--something you can download for free anyway. :( The Outlook Mobile Access plug-in is nice as a freebie, but it's a bummer in that you actually have to be logged in on Outlook to have it forward messages to your mobile device. Unless it's a true server-side technology--like Mobile Info Server--I don't think it will be much of an add-on. It's like, thanks for nothing, when Outlook Mobile Access is already *free*... sheesh. |
