Microsoft Corp. is mapping out the next major version of its .Net Framework, with features designed to make it easier for enterprise developers to deploy .Net applications and Web services. .Net Framework 2.0, code-named Whidbey, should be available late next year, but coding on the technology is scheduled to begin this month, according to developers close to the Redmond, Wash., company. The first beta is targeted to go out in Januakry 2003, with a second beta of Whidbey set for August 2003, according to sources. The final version is expected to be released in December 2003. | ||

Man, with what a huge success .NET has been all ready, and how well arranged and formulated the Framework Class Library is, it can only get much, much, better.
How they can make web services in .NET even easier is beyond me. Now they have the ledge and they can make huge leaps. |

I agree with both of you, daz & Q10. I've never wanted to be a developer more than I do now. Using the .net framework makes writing code fun... again.
And, ASP.NET is a dream come true! ASP.NET makes so many things that are a pain in other technologies soooo much easier. I can't wait for 2.0!!! |

What I would rather see is an implementation of UIML or some other external file codable UI. Smart clients are nice, and serve a purpose but for UI's that need to be theamable and changeable. (such as dynamically handleing several different languages in the same client) a More dyanamic structure for UI need to be iplemented. That would greatly enhance smart client implementation imo. The main issue is when there is a mixture of langauges in the UI. For example handleing forms with multiple languages in an English UI. Take for example that the Main language UI is English. and the document being entered is Russian. To handle this is difficult at best Especially with Entry and reordering to handle cultural infomation , (address order or name order). While Switching the entire UI(while not entirely trivial) is trivial compared to that case. Mix language UI support is an issue that needs to be addressed. (better than it is currently) And yes I agree Winforms isn't perfect, and Entire new framework needs to be implemented for a real Client based system. But that framework also needs to be mindful of the past to ensure reusability. El |
