Linux vs. Microsoft Windows? - Now Small Manufacturers Don't Have to Choose | |

InterNetworX Systems today announced ShopWorX for Windows, a software package for small- to medium-sized manufacturers that marries low-cost Linux servers with Windows® PC clients. Using Linux, the fastest-growing trend in business servers, allows small manufacturers to save thousands of dollars in licensing fees. With ShopWorX, they can now upgrade to Linux and retain existing Windows PCs. Linux powers the Internet and is on course to attain supremacy in the business server market. The June 2002 Netcraft Web Server Survey reveals that over 60% of Internet servers run Linux-based Apache software. According to Intel, "Today, Linux accounts for over 33% of all server operating system sales. Applications developers are flocking to Linux in record numbers. Hardware support is thorough and aggressively innovative." Linux has proven to be stable, reliable and secure, and it is available on virtually any brand computer, from notebook to mainframe. | ||

| Ok, I realize that over 60% of web servers are running Apache, but is it true that 60% of web servers are running Apache on Linux??? Doesn't Sun also account for a nice chunk of that 60%? |

bluvg - Yeah, Linux only accounts for something like 30% of the web sites, freebsd, sun, etc. also account for large chunks and you can run Apache on Windows even. Also, they're using the statistics wrong. 60% of internet web sites are run on Apache, but multiple sites may exist on one server. There is a very signifigant difference between site and server.
Looking back at previous netcraft attempts at reporting servers, Apache only accounts for around 45% of servers, with IIS accounting for 50%. IIS also has a signifigantly large chunk of the IIS market. |

#5... millions of dollars in transactions each day, using IIS, prove you wrong...
Amazing how open-sourcers can't even give their software away for free... and maintain a sustainable lead over MSFT. Must be BillG's hypnotic abilities making all those sysadmins switch to IIS. I mean, those admins would never use IIS because of ease of use, TCO, stability, or broad feature set... now would they? |
