Microsoft changes tune on Linux | |

Microsoft appears to be changing its tactics in its ongoing spat with the Linux and open-source world by taking a booth at this August's LinuxWorld Expo for the first time. The Windows giant has never ignored the Linux show, often sending executives along to scope out the terrain and pitch Microsoft's point of view, but it has never taken the step of renting a booth. Senior executives, including chairman Bill Gates, have long preferred a more caustic form of engagement with open source and its underlying philosophy, calling it a "cancer" and arguing that "Free Software" goes against everything that capitalism stands for. | ||

------------------------------------------- Another incorrect article. Again, this was in reference to the GPL, not open source software in general. Some people just never get it. If MS was against open source software/free software in general, why have they supported BSD, and why do they have their own free software? |

Just because they support BSD doesn't mean they have to port their applications to it, which sots a lot of time and money, and probably won't make them much money because the user base isn't nearly the same at all as Windows.
BSD on the server is big, but you don't install those apps on the server, BSD on desktops, very reare, BSD on development environments and other workstations, much more common, but they wouldn't be using those systems for such applications. Who are you to say what Open Source is or is not? Has anyone declared you the supreme leader of Open Source? I think not. Open Source is allowing people to see the source code, period. You don't have to be able to change it yourself to be able to make suggestions, or to tell them that somehting is wrong here. It's time to get your head pried away from your rear end and come back to reality. |

So let me get this straight. MS software is really never free, you have to pay for it when you buy Windows. But say, when Sun makes an app that's totally outright free, it's just free, it's not subsidized by other products? My point is, who the hell cares. |
