The # key on US keyboards is a minor irritation for the British - it's where '£', our pound sign, should be. Furthermore, Americans mispronounce the # sign as pound, when everyone else knows it should be 'hash' (Alright everyone except BT, whose operators insist on calling it the 'square' key on the phone). | ||

Hey, I'm still mad about Bell Labs and their damn C++... ++!? Are you kidding? They OBVIOUSLY stole that + sign from the Red Cross, and it should be called C CROSS CROSS, not C PLUS PLUS.
I'm glad somebody finally nailed Microsoft for the same ploy. DOWN WITH M$! ... give me an F'in break. |

The "#" has always been the "pound" key. The "£" has always been the "British Pound" or "Sterling" key. I have no idea why BT would say "#" is the "square" key, when that's foolish...if you are a support tech and someone needs help and you tell them "Alright, now hit the 'square' key..." they'll go bananas...almost every keyboard I've ever seen has square keys. The term "square" is gonna cause problems.

The term "octothorpe"/"octalthorpe"is only a few years old (and was made up anyway as sort of a humorous thing...), but the "pound" use dates way back.
While some dictionaries have octothorpe in it, it also says "see pound sign" or some such mix. |

Nitpicking is the wrong word, it's flat out bashing.
The letter was beyond lame, and probably just to satisfy the writer's large ego, which probably compensates for other, smaller parts. Indeed, he did this merely to seem smart, however using things like Microsloth, M$, and the like only make you look more dumb, not to mention that he has no grasp of music, even in the slightest. |
