“There is never a perfect time for this type of transition, but now is the right time,” Ballmer said. “We have embarked on a new strategy with a new organization and we have an amazing Senior Leadership Team. My original thoughts on timing would have had my retirement happen in the middle of our company’s transformation to a devices and services company. We need a CEO who will be here longer term for this new direction.” | ||

| Big news! Some could say this was expected. Do you think it is good or bad? I think probably good in the long term, but I am not sure about the timing. I think the shareholders may suffer. |

Adobe's endeavors into the rental software business haven't been well received. They effectively dissed all of the hobbyists when they went to their subscription based model.....and they've lost business because of it.
While the software as a service might work on the business side, it doesn't work on the consumer side. |

| Sooner would be better. 12 months gives Ballmer enough time to train a clone. An experienced talent from Google, Apple, Lenovo (the only growing PC company on Earth) or anywhere else may be much better than a home grown person, especially since Ballmer reportedly drove away much of the talent that used to be at MS. MSFT might be better off splitting into several companies instead of the likely ill-fated "one Microsoft" of Ballmer's vision. Time will tell. One year's time is too long. |
