Gates holds new stakes in drug firms -- SEC filing | |

An investment vehicle for Microsoft Corp. MSFT.O co-founder Bill Gates held 14 new stakes last quarter, including several pharmaceutical companies, according to a recent U.S. regulatory filing. A quarterly filing made on Wednesday with the Securities and Exchange Commission shows Cascade Investment LLC and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation held new investments in Pfizer Inc. PFE.N , Bristol-Myers Squibb Co.BMY.N , Johnson & Johnson JNJ.N and others in the quarter ended March 31. It also shows an increased stake in Merck & Co. Inc.MRK.N , to about $78 million, with 1,359,000 shares, or 359,000 more than the previous quarter. A complete list of holdings and their values were not disclosed in the filing because some were omitted and filed with the SEC under confidential status, which can last from three months to one year. | ||

The Gates foundation has been working to bring inexpensive drugs to nations that cannot otherwise afford them. Cures and vaccines, etc... |

| Not to defend marketing, as it makes me sick to my stomach, but I would assume that without tons of marketing, they wouldn't have as much money for either. I guess it's a necessary evil. |

#4 - Actually, Bill makes the majority of all his financial decisions.
At any rate, Gates is the single most generous person in the recorded history of the human race. He has given more money away than many countries have to begin with. I have a feeling Gates started thinking about the impact he has had on the world, and realized that Microsoft isn't very important in the big picture. So instead of just enjoying his billions, he is putting it to good work and really making a difference. |
