Impending crisis for Microsoft: Office tablet pricing | |

ZDNet reported yesterday that Microsoft is getting a version of Office ready for the iPad. The new versions of Word, Excel, and Powerpoint will be aimed at bringing a “real” office suite to the iPad, to compete with Apple’s iWorks suite. The interesting rumor has Microsoft pricing the Office apps at $10 to compete directly with the apps from Apple. This leads to the realization that Microsoft faces a dilemma when it comes time to price the Office apps for its own Windows 8 tablets coming down the pike. | ||

| My guess is that Office for the iPad and Android will be nothing more than free clients for Office Web Apps. i.e. http://skydrive.live.com, SharePoint, and/or Office 365. There will also be a Metro version of Office for Windows 8. This way the best Office experience will still be the Windows versions. However, the pricing of the Office suite will stay the same. |

| I think it is good that they are adding this for iPad, a lot of my clients continue to think ipad is a PC replacement, this will make life a little easier for them...especially with powerpoint! I probably will just stick with the traditional windows verion, though. |
