Windows Explorer is a foundation of the user experience of the Windows desktop and has undergone several design changes over the years, but has not seen a substantial change in quite some time. Windows 8 is about reimagining Windows, so we took on the challenge to improve the most widely used desktop tool (except maybe for Solitaire) in Windows. Alex Simons on the program management team authored this post with a detailed look at the evolution of Explorer and the major improvements to its interface and functionality for Windows 8. Judging by the passion on file operations and user interface design, we know this is an important subject so we expect a pretty engaged dialog on the topic. We put this in one lengthy post, will watch the comments and dialog, and down the road we'll continue the discussion. | ||

Just bring back Explorer from XP. Browsing, file associations, search was just fine how it was. sometimes simple is the wrong option -especially wen you don't have any options

LOL @#1. Setting file associations was and still is broken in XP. It's TERRIBLE. Browsing LOL Vista and 7 are FAR better in this regard. I agree with you on search though, but there are programs that solve that.
If you want XP stuff, stick with XP. Sounds like you want to be stuck in the past. I bet you still cook over twigs too. |

#3 ok modern man: Without editing the registry or using a third party application that people are releasing to deal with this, change the .txt edit and open options (with seperate application for each). Also be sure to include details on command line modifications to the open command.. lets make it easy and just put %1% in there. Post your solution because the windows 7 world waiting. In XP that was a snap. Certainly you can change the application relationships on a VERY basic level in 7 but, it's far from complete.
