Is Skype Being Sabotaged? | |

This could all be coincidence, as some suggest, but to me, both sabotage and outside attacks have to be considered as possible causes as well. But why would anyone do this to Skype? If you have to ask that question, then you do not follow the industry. To be blunt, Microsoft is an extremely disliked company in many quarters of the technology community. Or maybe I should put it even more bluntly; the company is hated to an extreme by many. | ||

This has got to be the stupidest thing to do to either Skype or Microsoft. It falls along the line of burning your car to protest against your car's manufacturer.
My bet is that a few AnonOps or LulzSec wanna-be script-kiddies just did it for the lulz. Lame-factor: Broke the needle! --ScottKin |

#1: I'd say it's more like licking the cookie. You still want it, but you want to make it unappealing for the undesirable entities.
I don't use Skype and couldn't care less what happens to it, but part of its success was due to ubiquity; you could use Skype from many platforms. This is anathema to Microsoft, who would prefer that it ran only on Windows, or at the very least, ran "best" on Windows. |

I dropped PC Mag years ago for the likes of that dufus Dvorak. He makes a living talking out of his a**.
First of all, Microsoft is one the most recongized brands on the planet (Business Week 2009, third out of a hundred). It isn't hated by sane people that need and use some of the best hardware and software products of their type that happen to be owned by Microsoft. Dvorak hints that maybe the deal won't be done for this reason or another. The deal has been approved by both boards. Both companies are already drawing merger plans. It is done, already. Meanwhile, I Skyped to China yesterday and had a perfectly clear converation with a product manager there. Over the weekend, I Skyped to Europe where a friend of mine is making a film. Their Unlimted World Plan is a bargain at $14 a month. Another friend of mine designs high end fabric for furniture and window treaments. The fabric is made in China, custom assembled to order here in North Carolina, with the design studio in Vermont. Without a tool like Skype (particularlly the video and teleconference capabilities), his telecommunications costs would be outrageous and the requirement to visit each site would make it almost unworkable. The service is great and often exceeds the clarity of talking on my Blackberry/Verizon cell phone to someone no more than a couple of miles away. Microsoft bought the product to both monetize it and integrate it into their other products. It remains to be seen how they will acomplish it. |

Comcast just announced that they will be offering a Skype kit for their set top boxes. I would think this would run contrary to what MS is trying to acheive with the xbox (with respect to communications)

Nice post. I discover something more challenging on diverse blogs everyday. It is going to always be stimulating to read content from other writers and practice a bit some thing from their store.
