Microsoft has been very coy about numbers surrounding its nascent Windows Phone 7 platform, but today it let out a whopper of a stat. Achim Berg, corporate vice president, Mobile Communications Business and Marketing Group, said, "We are pleased that phone manufacturers sold over 1.5 million phones in the first six weeks, which helps build customer momentum and retail presence." | ||

| bluvg, I think you should read the rest of the article and not the headline. MS is still hiding the actual number of handsets sold. The 1.5 M represents the number of handsets sold to carriers and distributors. This number does not represent the number of handsets actually sold to consumers. It will be hard to know how well the handset is selling until MS releases actual handsets sold to consumers. |

| Yeah, they always use the channel sales trick when they need a number to throw around. I'm not sure how having a million phones sitting in warehouses will help build customer momentum and retail presence. |

I did read the whole article. However, there are no publicly known numbers of devices sold to consumers, so that's all rumor and speculation for now.
Maybe there is a stockpile somewhere in Cheyenne Mountain. Maybe there isn't. I'm surprised by the numbers myself. But keep in mind, these are worldwide numbers, and HTC, Samsung, etc. are not likely to make a huge excess quantity based on wishful thinking. |
