Lots of good reasons to take Microsoft private | |

With interest rates at historic lows, maybe it's time for Microsoft to refinance. Seriously, the company is unable to convince investors that its business is doing well. So why not say to hell with Wall Street and take the company private? Microsoft has management challenges and seems less nimble and adventurous, but it's steadily grown the business through the downturn. The company is now so big that its stock will never perform the way it did in the 1990s. | ||

If MSFT turns in a couple more quarters like the last two (earnings up 50%+), all this silly talk will go away. If nothing else happens but the P/E goes from 10 to 20 like its nearest competitors, AAPL, ORCL, GOOG the stock price will double.
One of things that MSFT has to work on is getting the number of shares down. Right now there are 8.5 billion shares in float. It knows it has to do this as it has reduced the number from over 10 billion in the last several years. Because there are so many shares out there it takes a tsunami of buying to move the stock price. Meanwhile, who on the planet has a quarter billion dollars to buy MSFT? I, thought so . . . |
