Europe's MS sanctions to be wide-ranging, long-taking | |

Europe is likely to impose tougher measures on Microsoft than those proposed in last year's MS-DoJ deal in the US, according to a story in today's Financial Times. Citing "people familiar with the case" the piece claims regulators are studying "wide-ranging" measures to be taken against the company. It's not entirely clear what these measures are, but they would appear to include the unbundling of Media Player and substantial disclosure of technical data on Windows. If the former is required, then presumably the Competition Commission will demand it as a part of a more general removal of middleware. Removal, rather than simply hiding, has been one of the things Microsoft has fought hardest against in the US case. | ||

| Knowing Mr. Monti and his fellows in the European Institutions I am not surprised that they could be even dumbier than the dissenting States here. Also they have a very peculiar thing in common: both the State Attorneys and the EU COmmissioners play with taxpayers money not theirs. |

I'm starting to find the frequency of "The Register" "articles" on ActiveWin sickening... and I'm even starting to consider taking my page views elsewhere. THESE ARTICLES AREN'T NEWS. I would NEVER visit that site, but I end up reading 2+ of their articles each day on this site.
I've seen many fellow ActiveWin faithful express similar views. Its not that I dont find value in opposing opinion... its just that the frequency and outright bias of that site is more than I choose to stomach. If my vote matters at all... Personally, I like seeing all the different "perspectives." Granted, The Register's idea of journalism isn't exactly what I would consider the highest of quality, but it does no harm to list them on ActiveWin.
Would you rather ActiveWin become another Slashdot, but pro-Microsoft instead of anti-Microsoft? I wouldn't. |

After fighting and arguing all the time, I have come to the conclusion that the AW staff post these to generate controversy, which in turn causes people to view and post comments which gets extra page views (and money) for AW.
I've learned to accept and ignore the reg articles. If it brings AW some more money and it keeps them going, then I'm willing to live with it. Why they don't just create a Windows vs Linux area in the forums is beyond me. They'd get like 50x the page views that they get today. |

#12: Wrong. The Register editorializes in their stories and pass them off as "news".
Fox News is mostly fair and balanced and reports stories with journalistic integrity. It's just that Fox News shows you stories that the liberal media doesn't, so it makes Fox appear as conservative. It's a sad, sad day in America when telling the whole truth and the whole story makes a person "conservative." |

Fox News is like the Washington Times in this regard. Any station that has to claim they are "Fair and Balanced", is probably not fair and balanced. Of course all we need do is go back to the Chandra Levy story to know just how unbalanced Fox News really is. Christ even my most vocal conservative friends realize how biased Fox News is. |

| #20 Why competitors should show up only if MS pulls out from Europe? Do they have a product that cannot stand in comparison with WIndows? If yes Mr. Monti & Co. would have made a great service to customers. I left Europe years ago because I was so fed up with all the burocracy, the obstacles and the problems overthere. We are in the 21st century, the world has become like a place with several hotels, people and businesses move where they get the best deal. Right now in Europe Spain and Ireland are hot spot. Here it seems to me that the trend to move toward Canada is mounting. |

The thing is, I'm actually pretty conservative but I happen to be anti-Republican. Some people confuse my dislike for manipulating stupid people, lying, corruption of the Constitution and so forth for being liberal. Again, I shall refer you to David Brock's book so you can better understand what the Nixon legacy has wrought. |
