| I was having the same problem yesterday when trying to do a direct download. Use MS's download manager and it will finish. |

Downloaded the beta tonight. It seems to work fine.
No real way to tell it's a newer version of MSE except that the graphics on the right side of the window are "webby". Oh, and the "about MSE" screen lists the presence of an antimalware client as well as the presence of antivirus and antispyware definitions. |

version 2.0 of MSE now integrates with Internet Explorer -- a feature that the company implemented in an effort to better fend off Web-based threats.
Microsoft is also infusing the antivirus service with enhanced protections against network-based exploits, but only for Vista and Windows 7. Windows XP users who want the network inspection features are out of luck. That's because the enhanced network inspection system requires the Windows Filtering Platform function in order to run, which is only available on Windows Vista and Windows 7. MSE is getting better. : ) |

| I use this on my XP Mode Images, but for actual machines I pay for NOD32 and don't think I'll ever change. |

TL,
Why the love for NOD32? I installed it once upon a time and even though it worked well, it was incredibly invasive. Sorta like the wisteria I've got in the back yard. MSE on the other hand seems competent, non-intrusive and is removable without re-installing the OS. I know I don't surf to .ru websites but MSE does seem to keep me virus and malware free. Just wonderin'. |

If you had those issues, it wasn't NOD32 causing them.
NOD32 is the least resource-intensive software of it's type available. It is written in Assembly Language for this purpose. Almost no one does that any more. It is also more pro-active than anything else I've used. Most others react to an infection. NOD32 is very good at stopping it before a single bit of it has a chance to get to your machine. |
